How We 3D Print Our Snowflake Keychains (From Print Bed to Stocking)

Our Gold & White Snowflake Keychain is one of the smallest things we make, and one of our favourites. Here is how each one goes from a design on screen to a little gift in someone's Christmas stocking, all inside our studio in Canada.

1. Designing the snowflake

Every keychain starts as a 3D design. We wanted a classic six-point snowflake that reads clearly from across a room, so the gold-tone snowflake is raised above a crisp white base. That raised edge catches the light and gives the keychain its layered, three-dimensional look.

2. Printing a full bed of snowflakes

We print in small batches. A whole print bed of snowflakes goes onto the 3D printer at once, and the printer builds them up layer by layer in PLA filament, a plant-based plastic that is lightweight and gives a smooth, matte finish.

Because they are 3D printed, you can see fine layer lines on each piece. That texture is part of the charm, and it means no two snowflakes are ever exactly alike.

3. Popping them off the bed

Once the print is finished and cooled, the flexible print bed bends slightly and the snowflakes pop right off. (It is honestly one of the most satisfying parts of the job.) Each one gets checked for clean edges before it moves on.

4. Assembling every keychain by hand

Next, every snowflake gets a silver-tone metal keyring and a lobster clasp, attached one at a time by hand. The lobster clasp makes it easy to clip onto keys, a purse strap, a backpack or even the ribbon on a wrapped present.

5. Packed and shipped from Canada

Finally, each keychain is packed and shipped from our studio. We ship across Canada for $5.99 (free on orders over $50) and to the United States.
